Double Tap still loads it the same as before, but Speer has asked them not to use the Gold Dot trademark so it's now listed as "bonded JHP".

I'd actually like to see Federal create a full power 10mm load using a 180 grain HST JHP specifically designed to expand at 1250 fps. Handguns: General Handgun Forum May 30, 2018 · On the range, I tested 5 brands of ammunition: Speer Gold Dot, Federal Premium’s Vital-Shok and Personal Defense and Hornady’s Critical Duty and Custom 180 gr XTP. I tested the pistol and ammo at 10 yards from a sandbag using the sights. The smallest group of 5 fell within 1.25 inches and the largest, at 2 inches.

Nov 21, 2011 · I carry .40S&W 180gr HST on duty and off-duty. Speer Gold Dot is a great round too. I used to carry them in my Kahr PM9. The 124gr Short Barrel stuff is pretty slick for sub-compacts and pocket rockets. I've also seen pretty exceptional test results from the Hornady Critical Defense FTX and the TAP CQ bullets. Dec 04, 2010 · America’s favorite, the .45 ACP, also turned in a stellar performance. The 230- grain Gold Dot load averaged 880 fps from a Kimber Desert Warrior and penetrated to a depth of 12.8 inches. Expanded diameter averaged out to 0.63 of an inch and, like all other recovered Gold Dot bullets, retained weight was right around 100%.

Keep in mind that the military was considering the terminal effects of FMJ ammunition. Modern defensive loads for the 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington like the 55-, 62-, and 75-grain Speer Gold Dot perform substantially better. Of course, non-FMJ 6.8 SPC ammunition, like the Fusion 90- or 115-grain bonded spitzer, perform very well too.

Hi all from Balitmore! Just purchased a XD-45 service a couple weeks ago and wanted peoples opinions on the gold dots vs. the HST's. Does anyone use the +P or is it just overkill? I also was interested in the 230 grain gold dots that double tap produce because of the good velocity at 230 grain.
